Ethics for Economists

OCT 14, 2011

The NBER has adopted a limited code of ethics for its members, and the AEA is to consider doing the same - at least for the journals it publishes. Why? Our first article claims it is a response to ethical lapses that helped precipitate the 2008 financial crisis, and notes that the American Sociological Association already has guidelines in place. The second article (contributed by PhD student Bohan Li) is one of many articles claiming to investigate the question 'Are economists or their students different than other people (and therefore more in need of codes of ethics, perhaps)?'

It's an interesting question, although the authors mention of Economists as being tainted with Original Sin is a bit much.
